King’s Passion

The King’s Passion is the yang counterpart to the Queen’s Ascent.

I see him as a strong, focused, aggressive character associated with the sun, masculinity and passion. He is rising up out of the botanical environment towards the sun and sky.

The environment for the king is the Passiflora, also known as the Passion flower.

Several varieties of this vine grow in our home garden. It is a host plant for the Gulf Fritillary or passion butterfly. For centuries it has been used for its calming and relaxing effects. This I felt may be a good plant match. The balance to a passionate character.

During the growth cycle I recorded the changes in my sketchbook to reference along with liberal imagination. In this contemporary botanical the flowers and vines are inhabited with insects that are drawn from real and reimagined elements.
