Pirate Vision I

In 1990, when I was at ILM, we were creating the visual effects for the film Hook.

We built and filmed a miniature version of the Captain Hook’s Ship.

Having spent years as the Captain of a vintage 106’ sailing tall ship “Lene Marie” I was especially interested in this project and appreciated the design. I especially appreciate the design of the stern view.

It had a face like quality that stuck with me all these years. That was the inspiration for this drawing.

I added eyes on my pirate that reflected erupting volcanoes, along with a crown of protea flowers crawling with serpents.
